Head of the Russian Imperial House Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna was a guest at the wedding ceremony of Head of the German Imperial House Prince George Friedrich of Prussia and Princess Isabell von Isenburg of Hessen.
Prince George Friedrich and Princess Isabella were married on 27 August in Potsdam, suburb of Berlin, at the Sanssouci palace, built by king Friedrich II the Great of Prussia in 1745 – 1747. More than 600 guest were invited, more than 100 journalists participated.
Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna participated together with Her Son and Heir Grand Duke Georgiy Mikhaylovich.
The Russian and German Imperial Houses are closely connected. In 1938 younger daughter of the Russian Emperor in exile Kirill I Grand Duchess Kira became a wife of Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia, further the Head of the German Imperial House. After his death in 1994 Prince George Friedrich (Kira’s grandson) became the Head of the House. Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna was a wife of another Prince of Prussia Franz Wilhelm (after the marriage Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich), with whom she divorced in 1985. Grand Duke Georgiy Mikhaylovich is their son.
